About the maker
The Thorlux company was started in Birmingham by Frederick William Thorpe in 1936. They produced lighting in a range of shapes, styles and colours intended for a multitude of different purposes. Most of their lights were finished in vitreous enamel and designed with the industrial environment in mind - factories, workshops, warehouses etc. Thorlux are still in production today and many of the original lights are still in full working order - a true testament to the superior build quality of days gone by.
